The Lincoln County Partnership for Child Well-Being got a little help from a judge this past Thanksgiving holiday and provided traditional turkey meals – with all the trimmings – to 41 needy families.
“Judge Sheila Kirk was the driving force behind this effort,” said Jami Earp, partnership coordinator. “Judge Kirk is the chair of the Lincoln County Partnership for Child Well-Being and she wanted to provide Thanksgiving meals to families who are underserved and do not qualify for services because their incomes are just above the eligibility guidelines.”

Turkey dinners and food baskets were provided by Skender and Kimberly Osmani, owners of Sandro’s Pizza and Pasta. “Holidays are important for all families,” said Kimberly. “We saw this as an opportunity to ensure families in need would have a traditional holiday meal.”

Others who donated food included Tommy and Robin Smith, Danny Chambers, Aleen Ball, Cathy Adams, Dr. Deb Shropshire, Brandy Smith, and Karrie Utterback. The meals were delivered by Earp, DHS Social Services Specialist Samantha Smart, and public school employees from Davenport, Meeker, McLoud, Wellston, and Stroud.

“These families often struggle with providing food throughout any given month,” said Earp. “Thanks to the collaboration in the Lincoln County community, these families were able to enjoy Thanksgiving without worrying about how they would feed their family on that special day.”

The Lincoln County Partnership for Child Well-Being is part of the Child Welfare Community Collaborative and is a partnership between the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS), nonprofit organizations, the faith community, and other agencies.
