Andrea Stasyszen, an Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) foster care recruiter in Lincoln and Pottawattamie counties, is being recognized as a "2016 Angels in Adoption" award recipient. She and her family will be honored by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) in September in Washington, D.C.

Each year, members of Congress are given the opportunity to celebrate individuals, families or organizations from their home state who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent, loving homes. Stasyszen and her family were nominated by U.S. Representative Steve Russell for their dedication to positive child welfare practices.

The family will participate in an adoption and foster care advocacy fair, congressional luncheon, and a legislative seminar with staff from key congressional committees discussing adoption and foster care issues pending before Congress.  Additionally, the family will have personal meetings with members of Congress and their staff to give Angels an opportunity to share personal stories and advocate for issues related to adoption and foster care.  The week of events culminates in a reception and gala to celebrate all the Angels and the children they serve.

The Angels in Adoption® Program is CCAI's signature public awareness event and provides an opportunity for all members of the U.S. Congress to honor the good work of their constituents who enrich the lives of foster children and children without parents in the United States and abroad. This year, more than 140Angels" are being honored through the Angels in Adoption® Program.
