OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Seminole County office of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) recently participated in a local food drive to benefit low income families served by InterFaith Social Ministries.“InterFaith operates off of donations only,” said Peggy Ellwanger, DHS child welfare secretary. “We have partnered with them in the past and our office decided to get involved when the local paper ran a photo of empty shelves at the InterFaith food pantry.”
Ellwanger says the local nonprofit has helped families in Seminole with food, medicine and utility bills for more than 30 years. She and DHS Adult and Family Services (AFS) county director Ken Province served as co-chairs for the food drive and AFS worker Shelly Wood, a member of the InterFaith Board of Directors, also helped coordinate the effort. All of the donated food came from DHS staff at the Seminole office.
“It was very successful,” said Ellwanger. “We know that every donation helps feed members of our community who need a little help just putting food on the table.”
