OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) child welfare supervisor, Jeremy Plumley, has received the 2013-2014 Outstanding Student Award from the Interdisciplinary Training Program (ITP) in child abuse and neglect at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC).

Plumley, a child welfare supervisor for Stephens and Jefferson counties, received the award during the ITP graduation ceremony on April 25. He was selected by his classmates for his leadership potential in the field of child maltreatment programs and prevention. Along with the award, Plumley received a one year membership in the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC).

ITP is an academic program for advanced students in social work, psychology, medicine, law, education, nursing, dentistry, public health, and related disciplines. The ITP program at the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in the Department of Pediatrics at OUHSC is currently in its 26th year and is funded by DHS.

Plumley is a third year student at the OU School of Social Work and has distinguished himself though his willingness to collaborate with other disciplines, his commitment to the field of child maltreatment, and his dedication to serving children and families. Classmates describe him as “highly knowledgeable and professional” and “a great representative of DHS and the ITP.”

The ITP is conducted through the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) at the OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. The hospital is a major teaching hospital and clinical facility for the diagnosis and treatment of abused and neglected children in Oklahoma.

The ITP faculty includes two clinical psychologists, two social workers, two law faculty, and one pediatrician. Students are recruited from major state and private universities in Oklahoma.
