OKLAHOMA CITY -- DHS Aging Services Director Lance Robertson received an Honorary Alumni Award on Oct. 8 from the Oklahoma State University College of Human Sciences.

Dr. Whitney Bailey nominated Robertson for his “tireless commitment to aging services.” Aging Services director since 2007, Robertson is responsible for 17 major programs, including Older Americans Act programs and the ADvantage Medicaid waiver program. A career gerontologist, he worked at OSU for twelve years, where he co-founded the Gerontology Institute and served as executive director of PartnerShips for Aging, the largest regional gerontology association in the United States.

Robertson recently finished a two-year term as president of the board of the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities and currently serves as past-president.

“His work across Oklahoma and as a national leader in aging issues gives us great pride,” said Bailey. “And as educators of those who will follow in his footsteps, we are grateful that our students have him as a model of outstanding service.” While not a graduate of the College of Human Sciences, Bailey said “we think of him as one of our own.” Robertson graduated from the OSU College of Business in 1993.

“I am grateful to Dr. Bailey and the gerontology program for this nomination," said Robertson. “While the award acknowledges my past commitment to the success of the College of Human Sciences, it affirms my excitement to be part of the great things that are coming out of a college whose mission is also (like DHS) to improve the lives of Oklahomans.”
