OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) has closed its application period for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The application period began July 9, and within a week DHS had processed more than 74,000 requests.
The federally-funded LIHEAP appropriated $16 million for its summer cooling program, and those funds were depleted in seven days.
The DHS will once again offer assistance next winter to help low-income Oklahomans pay their heating bills.
