OKLAHOMA CITY – An area-wide information systems outage brought state agency telephones and mainframes down Friday afternoon, delaying the state’s ability to disburse child support payments to customers until next Tuesday at the earliest.
Shortly after 2:00 p.m. Friday, Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) staff began receiving broadcast messages that call center telephones and mainframes were being affected by an outage outside of DHS networks. As the hour drew later, it became apparent that a solution was not immediately available and systems could not be brought back up in time to distribute this weekend’s regularly scheduled child support payments.
“Assuming our vendors find and remedy the problem this weekend, our first opportunity to distribute child support payments again will be overnight Monday, which would put funds available to customers on Tuesday,” according to Jeff Wagner, a spokesperson for Oklahoma Child Support Services. “Our hearts go out to the families impacted by this delay in expected support for their children.”
