OKLAHOMA CITY -- The OKDHS Aging Services Division (ASD) is seeking nominees for the 2012 Achievement in Aging Awards. The deadline for submission is March 30, 2012.

Winners will be recognized for their outstanding and significant contributions to Oklahoma's older citizens during the 37th Annual Oklahoma Conference on Aging that will take place May 15-17 at the Embassy Suites Norman Hotel and Conference Center. Sponsored by the OKDHS Aging Services Division, this year's conference theme is "Secrets of Aging: Hidden Treasures."

"We want to thank individuals and businesses who have generously invested their time and energy in support of our state's aging population," said Lance Robertson, ASD Director. "They are the role models for others to follow and deserve recognition."

Nominees should have demonstrated at least one of the following in support of older Oklahomans: improved and enhanced the quality of life and quality end-of-life; developed innovative and creative methods to promote and improve health and independence; involved others in efforts to make a positive impact; or served as a change agent for improvement or expansion of services and programs.

The award categories are Aging Partner of the Year, Advocate of the Year, Business Partner of the Year, Lifetime Achievement (individual), Media Partner of the Year, Professional of the Year, Program of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Along with a completed submission form, nominations should include a short narrative, at least one recommendation letter and supporting documentation. Narratives should describe the project and/or activities in which the nominee participated on behalf of older Oklahomans as well as the nominee's impact deserving of special recognition. Up to two letters of recommendation are allowed per submission. Supporting documents such as articles, brochures or photographs will also be accepted.
