OKLAHOMA CITY -- Employees of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) will help make the Christmas holiday a bit brighter for veterans at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center in Lawton, OK. The center is a long-term care facility for veterans, some of whom struggle with Alzheimer's and dementia.

OKDHS employees sponsored 38 veterans, 47 Alzheimer's veterans, and 107 homeless veterans who submitted 'wish lists' for Christmas. School children from Flower Mound Elementary School will provide each veteran with a hand-made Christmas card. The gifts will be delivered to the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at 1 p.m.

Thousands of items were collected, including bar soap, blankets, body lotion, books, candy, coffee mugs, cookies and snacks, gloves, jackets, shoes, slippers, socks, pajamas, razors, shaving cream, T-shirts, toothpaste, and even a fishing pole!
