State "111 Project" Recruits Foster Families from Faith Community

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- A state-wide campaign to recruit foster families from the faith community hosts a monthly meeting to help orient those who may be interested in fostering.  “The 111 Project” meets the third Tuesday of each month at Bridgeway Church, 228 W. Hefner Road in Oklahoma City from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  The discussion focuses on the unique vantage point of fostering as a family of faith and the technical process of becoming a foster family.

At the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS), foster and adoptive families are referred to as “Bridge Resource Families,” which is a child-centered approach committed to maintaining a child’s connection to kin, culture and community.  With the faith community partnership, where there is a strong family and child focus, OKDHS is able to forge a focused, strategic collaboration to recruit foster families.

“Even with the major reform in OKDHS systems and the politics surrounding the foster care issue in our state, many are convinced it is the community of faith who will change the face of foster care in Oklahoma,” said Robin Jones, Director of the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives.
