Attendees can visit the Senior Wellness Expo for free health screenings, fitness demonstrations and wellness exhibits. Also included is a film festival, exhibit hall and awards luncheon for poetry contest and spelling bee winners with entertainment.
Featured Senior Day presenters are Vickey Rose, 2011 Ms. Senior Oklahoma, Lance Robertson, Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) Aging Services Division director and aging expert Bruce Carnes, PhD, professor at the OU Health Sciences Center Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Carnes will present “Lessons from Biology on the Nature of Aging and Longevity.”
Senior Day is free for Oklahomans 60 years and older; however registration is required by May 4. Register by visiting www.okagingconference.com or phone (405) 325-6257 for assistance. Group registration is available online.
The conference professional days are May 16 and 17 and provide professional development for professionals, students and advocates in the field of aging.
Kathy Greenlee, U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging, will deliver the keynote address on May 16. “It is a rarity to have Secretary Greenlee visit our state, given the demands on her schedule and the pace of things happening in Washington,” said OKDHS Aging Services Division Director Lance Robertson. “Her willingness to be here and share federal insights is very special. This is a tenuous time nationally for the aging network and the timing couldn’t be better.”
Karyne Jones, President and CEO of the National Caucus and Center for Black Aged, Inc., will speak May 17. In addition to the keynote speakers, the Professional Days offer more than 50 breakout sessions, the Senior Wellness Expo and the Achievement in Aging award luncheon on May 17.
Professional Day registration is $70 per day (regular registration), $60 per day for those 60 and older, and $25 per day for students with a valid student ID. The registration deadline is May 4. Please visit okagingconference.com to register and for more information about the conference. Phone (405) 325-6257 for assistance with registration.
