OKLAHOMA CITY -- The 14th annual Latino Heritage Celebration will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Public Farmers Market Auditorium at 311 South Klein Avenue.

The event celebrates Hispanic culture and heritage, and the theme of this year's festivities is, "Latinos Building a Better World" (Construyendo un Mundo Mejor).

October is National Latino Month, and this annual heritage event celebrates the wealth of cultural contributions made by the Latino segment of Oklahoma's population.

The Mistress of Ceremonies will be Stephanie Pena, who performed at the 2011 American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards. Gregg Lott will sing the National Anthem. Others providing entertainment include Madaya Eakins from the Classen School of Advanced Studes, the Classen High School Honor Guitar Ensemble, the Southeast High School band, the Hispanic Folkloric Dance Group from Columbus Elementary, and the ALMA Folklorica de Oklahoma from Guyman High School. The Junior ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Candidate) from Northwest Classen High School will provide the Color Guard. The invocation/benediction will be provided by a volunteer chaplain from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

The Latino Heritage Celebration is the largest state-sponsored event recognizing contributions of Hispanic Americans to our state, and it is sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and the Oklahoma City Public Schools Language and Cultural Services.
