OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) November “Spirit of Service Award” will be presented to Noble County resident Louann Hunt. OKDHS Commission Vice-Chair Aneta Wilkinson will present the award during a special luncheon at the Noble County OKDHS office, 205 15th Street in Perry beginning at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 16.
“Louann has organized the Noble County Christmas Store for the past 10 years,” Wilkinson said. “She recognized a need among some of Noble County’s families and children who may need a bit of help during the Holidays.
“She has taken the store from very humble beginnings to a community-wide project. Today it involves local businesses, high school community service clubs, local Campfire Girls, churches and many individuals who volunteer their time and services to help others during the Christmas season.”
Last year, more than 500 children in Noble County received gifts from the store. In addition, Hunt has helped bring her community together in a number of ways.
“Louann was nominated for the Spirit of Service Award because she has a way of uniting people for a common goal,” Wilkinson said. “She has brought Noble County residents together in a way that promotes good will and encouragement, exemplifying the true spirit of Christmas. Louann has graciously donated hundreds of hours through the years to provide Christmas gifts to thousands of Noble County children. She is a wonderful example of the many employees who make up the OKDHS.”
The Spirit of Service Award was initiated by the Oklahoma Commission for Human Services in an effort to recognize outstanding employees or employee teams who embody customer service and exemplify excellence, respect, knowledge, resourcefulness, kindness, availability, compassion and helpfulness. Nominations are sent in by OKDHS staff for consideration by the Commission, and typically recognize one team or individual in their hometown on a monthly basis.
