Utility Crisis Assistance Available for Low-Income Households

Oklahoma Capitol -- Assistance will be available to help low-income households pay their energy bills through a program administered by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS).
Beginning Monday, March 21, the OKDHS will begin accepting applications from those who need assistance paying their energy bills, specifically those whose services are nearing or have been cut off.

Low-income households that do not receive public assistance may also be eligible for home heating assistance. It is important that persons requesting assistance provide their household’s income information as well as verification that their service has been terminated or will be terminated within 72 hours.  Also required is verification of income, social security numbers for all household members and citizenship verification.

Applications will be accepted at all OKDHS local Human Service Centers beginning March 21. Applications will be accepted until all allocated funding has been spent.

This assistance is available through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Oklahoma’s portion of the federal funding is projected to be about $5.5 million.
