OKLAHOMA CAPITOL— John Brack, child welfare specialist II, of Blaine County received the Dec. 2010 Commission Spirit of Service Award on Jan. 21, 2011 at the Garfield County Human Services Center, 2405 Mercer Dr., Enid.

Commission Chairman, Richard DeVaughn, D.D.S., presented the award.

Brack was nominated for consistently going beyond what is expected of him as he works with teens in his community.

Brack works with teens in Field Operations Division Area I to ensure they leave OKDHS custody with the documents and information necessary to succeed. He meets with them personally and provides them with a protected data disk and USB drive containing information that can be downloaded for later use. He also provides photos of the children and scans any document or photo the children feel is important so they can be forever preserved. He even keeps in touch with the teens after they leave custody in case they need something replaced in the future. Brack also serves as the Area I diligent searcher, independent living liaison and agency resource coordinator.

The Spirit of Service Award was initiated by the Oklahoma Commission for Human Services in an effort to recognize outstanding employees or employee teams who embody customer service and exemplify excellence, respect, knowledge, resourcefulness, kindness, availability, compassion and helpfulness. Nominations are sent in by OKDHS staff for consideration by the Commission, and typically recognize one team or individual in their hometown on a monthly basis.
