OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Registration is underway for the 36th Annual Oklahoma Conference on Aging: “Real World, Real Aging.”  After a one year foray in Tulsa, the state’s premiere aging event returns to the Oklahoma City area May 10-12 at the Embassy Suites Norman.
Presented by the Aging Services Division (ASD) of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS), the conference is “a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the state’s most valuable assets – its seniors,” according to ASD Director Lance Robertson.

On May 10, adults 60 and older are invited to Senior Day, a free event beginning at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast and including health screenings, free chair massages, more than 20 workshops and a complimentary lunch for those who pre-register.

Winners of the seniors’ poetry contest will be announced during the Senior Day lunch program and a limited number of bound copies of contest entries will be available.

The keynote speaker for Senior Day is Barbara Holmberg; a wellness author, co-founder of Qi Life Coaching and a nurse practitioner with 25 years of women’s health experience.

All Senior Day activities are free, but registration is required before May 3 at (405) 325-1022 or online: http://www.okagingconference.com/. (Link opens in new window)

May 11 and 12, the conference’s Professional Days features sessions for experts in aging, health and social services; students, advocates, state officials and corporate representatives.

“Savvy Senior” author and nationally syndicated columnist, Jim Miller, serves as keynote speaker for Professional Days. “Savvy Senior” is a media/information service devoted to baby boomers, senior citizens, and the families who support them.

More than 40 conference workshops will be offered during Professional Days with topics ranging from care giving and senior rights to healthy aging, mental health, community living and professional development.

A Senior Resource Fair with more than 60 exhibitors, a film festival and the Achievements in Aging awards luncheon -- recognizing individuals and organizations contributing significantly to the lives of older Oklahomans – is also featured.

Registration for the conference’s Professional Days is $75 per day for regular registration.  Registration for attendees 60 and older is $60 per day and a student with a valid student ID is $25 per day. The registration deadline is May 3, 2011.  Please call (405) 325-1022 or register online at http://www.okagingconference.com/.
