OKLAHOMA CITY -- This weekend Oklahoma Child Support Services is thanking fathers who are 100 percent current in their court-ordered payments of child support.

Non-custodial fathers who have made all of their child support payments this year are receiving letters from the agency thanking and encouraging them to maintain their commitment to their children. Fathers are the non-custodial parents in approximately 90 percent of Oklahoma’s child support cases.

Research shows that children who receive support from both parents do better in school and have improved development over those who do not. Child support payments alone lift more than one million children above the poverty line in America.

“Our whole society should appreciate parents who take responsibility for raising their children, especially those who provide regular, reliable support for their families,” said Gary W. Dart, OCSS administrator.

“Healthy families need reliable resources, and having a reliable source of financial support is one very critical resource.”

Non-custodial mothers current in their child support were similarly appreciated in a news release prior to Mother’s Day.

Oklahoma Child Support Services is a division of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. To promote healthy families, OCSS establishes, monitors and enforces reliable support while encouraging self-sufficiency and strengthening relationships. The division is responsible for more than 200,000 active child support cases, collecting approximately $300 million a year on behalf of children and families.
