OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- “The Economics of Oklahoma’s Single Parents” will be the topic in the next installment of the OKDHS Lecture Series. It will be held Thursday, March 24, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Chesapeake Room of the Oklahoma History Center.
The lecture will be presented by Dr. Larkin Warner, a former professor at Oklahoma State University. Warner was Director of the Economic Studies Division at the Kerr Foundation, and also helped staff the committee that developed the MAPS for Kids initiative. He will address the economic status of Oklahoma’s single mothers, using recent Census data. He will report the key factors that appear to contribute to the state’s women and children living in poverty.
His co-presenter is Dr. Jean S. Warner, who helped establish the Oklahoma Women’s Coalition, a non-profit organization that advocates for the state’s women and girls. She served as its first chair, and now serves on the board and chairs the leadership development committee. The Journal Record in 2010 named Dr. Warner one of the “50 Women Making a Difference in Oklahoma.” She will focus her part of the lecture on innovative initiatives to improve the financial futures of single-parent families.
All lectures are free and open to the public. This year-long series provides thought-provoking presentations by experts in their fields on Oklahoma’s emerging policy issues, trends and best practices. Lunch is available for purchase at the Oklahoma History Center. It is located at 800 Nazih Zudi Drive in northeast Oklahoma City, across the street from the state capitol.
