OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Black Heritage Committee, sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) Office of Civil Rights, will present several awards at the 27th Annual Black Heritage Celebration on Feb. 13, 2012. The event will be held at the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1020 NE 42nd Street in Oklahoma City, beginning at 11 a.m.

The theme of this year's celebration is "Eyes on the Horizon."

The event is a partnership between the OKDHS Office of Civil Rights, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

Three awards will be presented.

The Meritorious Service Award will be presented to the OKDHS employee who has exhibited outstanding contributions to the agency and the community.

The Trailblazer Award will be given to the person the Black Heritage Committee defines as "going where no man or woman has gone before."

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the person whose contributions to Oklahoma and/or the nation have been remarkable.

All nominations, including a description of why the nominee should be selected, should be emailed to Theodore.Booker@okdhs.org. The nominations must be received no later than noon on Jan. 6, 2012.
