OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Change a Child’s Forever, hosted by the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI), engages faith and community groups in addressing the needs of foster children. OFBCI invites faith leaders to a FREE luncheon in Okla. City on Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Oklahoma County Line and in Tulsa on Friday, Sept. 17, at KWHB TV Studio.
Many individuals and families think the only way to help with Bridge foster care is to be a foster parent, but there are a variety of ways to express love and support for these precious children. OFBCI has created a list of “Top 10 Ways You Can Help A Foster Child” to encourage the faith community’s involvement in the various needs associated with foster care.
Mark Tennant, founder and CEO of Arrow Child & Family Ministries, will speak at the luncheons. Advance registration is required by Sept. 13. “Oklahoma faith communities are in a unique position to provide compassionate services and community to all the dimensions of foster care,” said Robin Jones, Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives Director. “Those dimensions include foster children, foster families, and the biological families. These children, through no fault of their own, are in custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Although they may not be orphans in the sense that the no longer have parents, but their families are not able to care for them due to incarceration, extreme poverty, physical abuse or abandonment.”
