OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- George E. Young, Sr., D.M., pastor, Holy Temple Baptist Church and commissioner for the Oklahoma Commission for Human Services will open a dialog on the challenges of connecting citizens to community resources at noon, Nov. 19 in the Chesapeake Room of the Oklahoma History Center, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr., Oklahoma City.
Young will discuss meeting community needs by utilizing customer service techniques. Young is a trainer and instructor for the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program for the Oklahoma Marriage Initiative and the Becoming Parents Program. He is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Oklahoma City and a 2005 graduate of Leadership Oklahoma. Young has served on many non-profit boards, including the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma, Leadership Oklahoma and United Way of Greater Oklahoma City, just to name a few.

Robin Jones, OKDHS Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives director, will recognize Novo Ministries during the lecture. Novo Ministries serves inner-city children with mentors and positive teaching through a collaboration of partnerships with a variety of groups, including local congregations, businesses and the Oklahoma City Housing Authority.

All lectures are sponsored by Oklahoma Department of Human Services Office of Planning, Research and Statistics and University of Oklahoma Center for Public Management. In addition, this lecture is sponsored by OKDHS Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. This yearlong series provides thought-provoking presentations by experts in their fields on Oklahoma’s emerging policy issues, trends and best practices. The lectures are free and open to the public. Lunch is available for purchase at the Oklahoma History Center.

The next lecture will feature Ron Haskins, Ph.D., co-director, Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution, discussing Creating an Opportunity Society, Dec. 7.
