OKLAHOMA CITY -- A new telephone scam, targeting Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) clients is being reported this afternoon. The agency has received calls from clients who are reporting telephone scammers, posing as OKDHS workers, trying to obtain personal and financial information.
The clients reported receiving calls from persons identifying themselves as OKDHS workers.  One client said the caller asked for a social security number and address.  He became suspicious and hung up on the caller.  Another client said the caller requested their electronic benefits (EBT) Master Card number so they could add $50 to their account. The scammers apparently are trying various tactics to obtain information.

OKDHS workers will not call clients to obtain personal information. If someone is currently receiving assistance from the agency, workers will already have the information from their application in the system. Workers would never ask for EBT card information.

If someone believes they have been a victim of this scam, they should call police immediately. The Department has reported this scam to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As further information is received, updates will be posted to the OKDHS website at www.okdhs.org
