OKLAHOMA CAPITOL– Oklahoma’s seniors and senior advocates will meet at the state capitol Monday, April 5, to discuss the needs of the growing number of older adults.

Census data indicates that between the years 2000 and 2015, the population of those over age 65 is expected to grow at nearly three times the rate of the overall population.
“Given these demographics and the current fiscal environment, it is critical that legislators understand the importance of programs for seniors,” said Lance Robertson, director, Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services Division.

Senior Day at the Capitol participants are encouraged to visit their legislators while at the capitol. The program begins at 9 a.m. in the chambers of the House of Representatives and will conclude at 11 a.m. Exhibits will be on display on the fourth floor rotunda. Scheduled speakers include Secretary of State Susan Savage; Lt. Gov. Jari Askins; and Lance Robertson, director, OKDHS Aging Services Division.
