OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services Office of Volunteerism recently recognized an Antlers resident at the State Volunteer Awards Ceremony in Oklahoma City at the Langston University-Oklahoma City campus.
Sarah Dudley received the Leader of Tomorrow Award for her work in the community. The recognition ceremony honored exceptional individuals and organizations that provide volunteer service whose work has had a significant impact on individuals or a community.
Dudley helped plan a monthly Kids’ Day in Antlers with games and activities for children. She also devotes time to the Senior Citizen Center, where she serves food and visits with the residents. Dudley is also a Relay for Life team member and helps prepare a dinner for cancer survivors. For the last four years, she has volunteered at the Back to School Bash for foster children in Coalgate.
She has mentored second grade students to help them manage anger and bullying; has taught tobacco prevention to fifth and sixth graders; and volunteers at the community coalition’s Summer Arts Camp. Dudley is vice-president of Pushmataha County 4-H and plans overnight retreats and other 4-H activities. She has been class president, plays basketball and is a cheerleader.
Gov. Brad Henry’s Cabinet Secretary for Human Services, OKDHS Director Howard H. Hendrick, presented the awards and congratulated the honorees.
The theme, Volunteers Create Magic, was displayed throughout the room as each recipient was awarded a trophy and a commendation from the state legislature. A reception followed the ceremony.
