Hugo Resident Coffey Recognized for Volunteerism

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services Office of Volunteerism recently recognized a Hugo student at the State Volunteer Awards Ceremony in Oklahoma City at the Langston University-Oklahoma City campus. 

Kirby Coffey received the Leader of Tomorrow Award for her work in the community. The recognition ceremony honored exceptional individuals and organizations that provide volunteer service whose work has had a significant impact on individuals or a community.
 
She has provided more than 100 volunteer hours to the Choctaw Nation Youth Advisory Board, has raised funds for the Washington Community Center, participated in fundraising to help build a skate park, organized and hosted a senior citizen prom and coordinated the Toys for Tots drive at her high school. Coffey volunteered two hours a week at the local Boys and Girls Club as a mentor and with Project Falummichi, another school mentoring project. She is a member of Victory Life Youth and helped organize a clothes drive at the pregnancy retail store and made baby blankets for teenage mothers at the Pregnancy Crisis Center. She has previously taught Sunday school for children ages two to five.

Gov. Brad Henry’s Cabinet Secretary for Human Services, OKDHS Director Howard H. Hendrick, presented the awards and congratulated the honorees.

The theme, Volunteers Create Magic, was displayed throughout the room as each recipient was awarded a trophy and a commendation from the state legislature.  A reception followed the ceremony.
