Feds approve disaster food stamps for Carter County
OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- The U.S Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services notified Oklahoma this afternoon that the state’s request to issue Disaster Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program benefits had be granted for eligible residents of Carter County affected by the Feb. 10 tornadoes.
Oklahoma Department of Human Services Communications Director George Earl Johnson Jr. said that OKDHS state office and Carter County staff members are working to begin taking D-SNAP applications in Lone Grove at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The approved application period for the D-SNAP benefits runs from Feb. 21 to March 6, 2009. Persons living in the affected areas can make applications at the Disaster Recovery Center in Lone Grove, located at: 16999 U.S. Highway 70 (US70 and Newport Rd.), Lone Grove, OK 73443. DRC hours of operation are: Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday – 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
To be eligible, a household must have experienced or incurred one of the following:
- Damage to their property;
- Other disaster-related expense; or
- Loss of income.
