OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- Black Heritage Day’s “Fulfilling Dreams” Celebration will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 27 at the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1020 N.E. 42nd St., Oklahoma City. In honor of the celebration, Gov. Brad Henry proclaimed Feb. 27 as Black Heritage Day in Oklahoma.
Scheduled to appear are Dr. Tim Zwink, Deputy Director, Oklahoma Historical Society; Justin Jones, Director, Oklahoma Department of Corrections and Howard H. Hendrick, Director, Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS).

The keynote speaker will be Rev. George E. Young, Pastor of the Holy Temple Baptist Church. He also serves on the Commission for Oklahoma Department of Human Services and is Chairman of Faith to Government, Inc. Temple Gardens.

Entertainment will be provided by singing group EQ, African drummers from the Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School, Gospel Jazz singer Glenda Greenhoward, Poetry Reading by Kendal S. Turner, music by Wings of Harmony Choir and a drum line by the Star Spencer High School Drum Line.

This year’s Community Service Award will be presented to Karen Jacobs, Volunteer Coordinator for OKDHS. The Trailblazer Award will be given to Dr. Donnie Nero, President, Connors State College in Warner, Okla. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Nancy Randolph Davis, Civil Rights Pioneer in Higher Education.

The event is free and open to the public. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services sponsors this annual celebration in partnership with the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
