OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- TheOklahoma Department of Human Services Kelley Human Services Center and Greater Oklahomans Achieving Lifelong Success (GOALS) are co-hosting the Fourth Annual Back-To-School Blast, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17 at Douglass High School, 900 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Oklahoma City.
Parents and guardians can come to one facility and get everything that is needed to prepare their children to return to school. Services include parent information bags, Book Worms and Body Works for parents provided by Opportunities Industrialization Center, Smart Start of Central Oklahoma and Teen Screen. Awareness sessions for pre-K – 12th grade will be held, as well as free immunizations, sports physicals, finger printing and hearing and vision screens. Parent and student sessions will be available from 9 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Once the parents and students complete their sessions they will be able to go through the BLAST to get school supplies, backpacks, haircuts and trims, beauty packs, dental packs, brand new T-shirts, undergarments and socks. Free sub sandwiches, fruit, cookies and beverages will be available to all who attend the event.
Parents and students are referred to the Back-To-School Blast by OKDHS and GOALS. Only clients and students in the OKDHS Kelley Office zip code service area will be served and on-site referrals will be available. This year 500 students have been identified as qualifying for participation in the Blast. Clients can contact their worker at the OKDHS Kelley Human Services Center for a referral, or to find out if they live within the zip code service area.
