OKLAHOMA CITY -- A free conference for grandparents and other relatives raising grandchildren will be held April 24 and 25 at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1020 N.E. 42nd St., Oklahoma City.
“Oklahoma has more than 42,000 grandparents raising grandchildren,” said Sen. Constance Johnson, D-OKC, the conference co-chair. “We appreciate this conference being held in northeast Oklahoma City, where the issue is particularly pervasive.

“Being a GRANDfamily,” sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Aging Services Division and Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, gives grandparents and families information and guidance about coping with family and personal stresses.

Friday’s agenda will highlight two keynote speakers. Sandy Ingraham, a noted legal advisor, will discuss guardianship legal issues and how to navigate legal matters when child custody issues are involved. Oklahoma City author and speaker, Charlotte Lankard, will also speak on Friday.

Saturday’s agenda will feature seven breakout sessions discussing risky behaviors, caregiver support and parenting, among other topics. Childcare will be provided with activities for the children.

To register for this free conference, call Paula Cockrell at (405) 521-2281.
