OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- Tom W. Boyd, PhD, will be speak on the ethical dimensions of people, power and purpose in a complex global environment, noon, Sept. 11 at the Oklahoma History Center, Capitol Complex, Oklahoma City.

Boyd’s speech is the second in the 2008 Practice and Policy Lecture Series, sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and the University of Oklahoma Center for Public Management.

Boyd is the David Ross Boyd Professor of Philosophy Emeritus at OU, retiring from full time academic life in 1997 after teaching the philosophy of religion and ethics for 28 years. He also retired from the ordained ministry in the Presbyterian Church USA in 1998. He continues to teach in the newly established Religious Studies program of the university and to lecture, preach and conduct seminars around the country.

Boyd holds four earned degrees, including a Doctorate in Religion from Vanderbilt University. His academic specialization is in philosophical theology, theories of religion, religion and culture and ethics. His current concentration is on the relation among world religions and the relation between religion and culture. He seeks through his studies and teaching to understand and appreciate religion in its contemporary setting and in light of an emerging planetary culture.

Boyd most recently completed his first novel in collaboration with his wife, Barbara S. Boyd, who also holds a doctoral degree in religion from McCormick Theological Seminary.
