OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Applications for the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program will be taken beginning Dec. 1 at all Oklahoma Department of Human Services’ Human Services Centers. Applications will be taken until Dec. 19 or until funds run out.
“Eligibility for help through LIHEAP is based on household income and assets,” said Cari Crittenden, OKDHS LIHEAP coordinator. “Individuals requesting LIHEAP assistance should have their latest heating bill and income information when applying.”
Crittenden said many households that already receive assistance through OKDHS, such as Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or state supplemental payments to the aged, blind or disabled, may be automatically authorized for LIHEAP and will not need to apply. These households will be notified of their eligibility.
Households that are usually pre-approved should make application at their local OKDHS office if they have recently moved or didn’t receive a pre-approval notice this year.
Crittenden added some low-income households that do not already receive public assistance may be eligible for home heating assistance and should contact their local OKDHS office for an application.
The maximum income guidelines for the program are:
