OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- In fiscal year 2007, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services Division investigated more than 17,550 allegations of adult abuse. That’s more than one and half times the seating capacity of Tulsa Drillers Stadium.
On July 9, OKDHS Adult Protective Services staff from Osage, Washington, Creek and Tulsa counties will join forces with area non-profits, aging advocates, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, district attorneys and judges to discuss tactics and strategies for making our seniors and vulnerable adults safer.
Those attending the conference, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Double Tree Hotel, 616 W. 7th St., Tulsa, Okla., will come together and share resources, best practices, warning signs and stories from the front lines of adult abuse.
Conference participants will hear from OKDHS Area Director Stephen R. Scott, legendary Oklahoma journalist and national speaker Frosty Troy and keynote speaker Dr. Dan Sheridan. Sheridan is a nationally recognized medical expert on the subject of forensic investigation and documentation of abuse and neglect.
“OKDHS is proud of our strong partnerships with the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, as well as the Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa County Sherriff’s Office and other community partners,” said Kathy King, OKDHS Area VI Adult Protective Services Liaison. “We all care deeply about the well-being of vulnerable adults in Tulsa and surrounding counties. This conference allows us to strengthen our partnerships and build new ones, all with the goal of keeping Oklahomans safe at any age.”
