OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- At the Jan. 22 Oklahoma Commission for Human Services meeting, Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) Director Howard H. Hendrick recognized Oklahoma City’s LifeChurch.tv for helping OKDHS clients have a happy holiday.
According to OKDHS Office of Volunteerism Coordinator Karen Jacobs, in September 2007, Jacobs along with OKDHS Child Welfare staff met with LifeChurch.tv pastors.
“Their vision was to provide Thanksgiving baskets for families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families in Oklahoma County and to fill LifePacks at Christmas for OKDHS foster children statewide,” said Jacobs.
LifeChurch.tv provided 600 families with hams, turkeys and accompaniments totaling $21,288.
For Christmas, LifeChurch.tv asked 3 of their campus congregations to fill LifePacks for OKDHS foster children statewide. Children offered wish lists for holiday gifts and congregants filled their requests. More than 5,000 foster children statewide received the gifts.
“The approximate dollar value of Christmas would amount to more than $250,000 with 15,000 gifts donated,” said Jacobs. “Lives within their congregations and the hearts of foster children throughout Oklahoma were encouraged.”
Hendrick expressed his appreciation on behalf of OKDHS. “The tremendous undertaking has helped thousands of Oklahoma families. The partnership allows OKDHS to fulfill its mission to help individuals and families in need help themselves lead safe, healthier, more independent and productive lives. We honor your dedication, endurance and enthusiasm.”
