OKDHS Practice and Policy Lecture Series Presents The Emerging Prevalence of Fragile Families on Dec. 11

OKLAHOMA CAPITOL – Kathy Edin, professor of public policy and management at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, will present research on the growing prevalence of fragile families Dec. 11 at the College of Public Health auditorium, 801 N.E. 13th St., Oklahoma City. Edin presents on behalf of the OKDHS Practice and Policy Lecture Series.
Edin will discuss public policy implications of out-of-wedlock births. She recently published Promises I Can Keep:  Why Poor Women Put Motherhood Before Marriage. Edin presents from 1 to 2 p.m.

Sponsored by the OKDHS Office of Planning, Research, and Statistics and the University of Oklahoma Center for Public Management, the Practice and Policy Lecture Series offers thought-provoking presentations on Oklahoma’s emerging policy issues, trends, and best practices. On Jan. 18, Oklahoma Commissioner of Health Mike Crutcher, M.D., will speak on the Strong and Healthy Oklahoma Initiative. On March 7, Robert Cox, assistant professor in the School of International and Area Studies at the University of Oklahoma, will present the European Welfare Systems. On May 15, Marie Bernard, professor and chair of the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatric Medicine and the director of the Oklahoma Geriatric Education Center, will present on Aging Oklahoma and State Policy.
