OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- State families who received Food Stamp benefits in December should contact their local Oklahoma Department of Human Services Center to request replacement of their food stamp benefits for food loss during the recent ice storm.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services’ standard of at least 12 hours of outage is generally used as a guide on the replacement of destroyed foods. However, if a client indicates food has spoiled in less time, a replacement may be allowed.
As of noon, Dec. 13, the federal government had not approved any individual assistance for Oklahomans affected by the ice storms. At this time, there has not been approval from USDA’s Food and Nutrition Services to run a disaster food stamp program. OKDHS will notify the public via the media should such approval be received at a later date.
More than 415,000 Oklahomans received some level of benefits through the state-administered federal food stamp program in December.
