Gov. Henry Proclaims November Adoption Awareness Month
OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- In fiscal year 2006, Oklahoma’s Swift Adoption Program authorized more than 1,330 children to be placed in adoptive homes.  But, even with this great success, hundreds more children still wait to be adopted.  More than 70 percent of these children have brothers and sisters who need to be placed in adoptive homes together.

To help raise awareness about the need for adoptive homes for sibling groups, OKDHS would like to introduce Oklahomans to three handsome young men who are hoping to be placed in a loving, caring adoptive home together.

Meet Kenneth, an affectionate 9-year-old.  Kenneth makes friends easily and has a healthy appetite. Kenneth likes celebrating holidays and loves his brothers. He also likes to play games, and look at books and takes good care of his belongings.

Meet Derrea, a happy, healthy, outgoing 8-year-old. Derrea loves his brothers and needs someone who can match his energy level.  He likes playing with cars and trucks and interacts well with others.

Meet Lavelle, a loving 5-year-old. Lavelle likes to play and typically plays well with others. He relates well to both males and females and pays close attention to his personal hygiene for a boy his age.

These young men are all physically healthy, but have survived neglect and domestic violence and have witnessed substance abuse. They would benefit from routine and structure and need a loving, caring and active family who can help them grow up to be happy, healthy adults.
