OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- More than 1,100 pinwheels representing the 11,140 teens age 16 to 18 in state custody will dot the south lawn of the Oklahoma State Capitol during the Pinwheel Project on March 22. At noon, Oklahoma State Secretary of Human Services Howard H. Hendrick will join Sen. Bernest Cain and Rep. Ron Peters on the south steps of the Capitol to speak about the importance of finding and maintaining quality foster and adoptive homes, not just for teens, but for the more the nearly 11,200 children in state custody.
“It’s so important that Oklahomans be aware of the needs of children in out of home placement,” said Kami Robinson, a former foster youth and principal organizer of the event. “Good foster and adoptive parents are very important and can really make a positive difference in a child’s life.”
