Gov. Henry Proclaims November Adoption Awareness Month
OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- For the seventh straight year, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Swift Adoptions Program has placed more than 1,000 children in quality adoptive homes.
But there are still more than 1,100 children in state custody waiting to be adopted. More than 70 percent of these children have brothers and sisters and need to be placed in loving, caring adoptive homes where they can grow up together.
To help raise awareness about the growing number of siblings awaiting adoption, OKDHS would like to introduce Oklahomans to three sisters who are hoping to be adopted together.
Meet Angela, a special 15-year-old who is a survivor. Angela has red hair and freckles and likes to watch movies, swim and attend church. She likes animals and has two Basset Hounds that she’s very fond of. Angela has undergone many surgeries to correct birth defects. She has challenges with her hearing and attends regular speech therapy. Developmentally delayed, she responds best to younger children and one on one interaction.
Meet Jessica, a cheerful and positive 13-year-old. Jessica, or Jessie, always looks for the bright side of any situation. She is healthy and does well in school. Jessie likes to read and loves animals. Her favorite foods are pepperoni and pineapple pizza and chocolate cake.
Meet Margaret, a cheerful, lovable 12-year-old. Margaret, or, Mandie as she’s called, makes friends easily, but needs a lot of encouragement with relationships and with school. Mandie likes to play games and loves Chinese food.
