OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- The Oklahoma State Council on Aging and the Oklahoma Alliance on Aging will sponsor a presentation of issues facing older Oklahomans April 4 at the State Capitol. The event will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. in the House of Representatives Chamber on the fourth floor.
In following the 2005 Senior Day theme of “Senior Voices,” six speakers will address issues concerning older Oklahomans ranging from nursing homes to quality of care to grandparents’ rights. Legislators, aging advocacy and education groups, and older Oklahomans across the state are encouraged to attend this event.
Oklahoma Secretary of State Susan Savage will present opening remarks, and H.L. Wright, a member of the Oklahoma State Council on Aging, will present the closing remarks.
Bill Anderson, chairman of the Oklahoma State Council on Aging, said the event will be the best opportunity for older Oklahomans to influence what is communicated by state leaders who will attend the White House Conference on Aging to be held later this year.
“There will be no state meeting on the White House conference this year,” Anderson said. “Attending this session will give older Oklahomans the opportunity to have their voices heard and their concerns taken to Washington, D.C.”
Those planning to attend are urged to come early because all entering the Capitol must pass through security. Entrances to the Capitol are located at the southeast corner and through the tunnel from the parking lot east of the Capitol across Lincoln Boulevard. The Capitol doors open at 8 a.m. Those attending are encouraged to bring a sack lunch.
