OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- Mary Williams, a seven-year Oklahoma Department of Human Services veteran, has assumed the duties as a new child welfare supervisor in LeFlore County.
“Mary brings an outstanding level of expertise in Child Welfare to the position,” said Area V Director Judy Ann Wyatt. “We believe her knowledge, experience, attitude and communication skills will make her an excellent leader for the staff in LeFlore County.”

During the last six years, Williams worked intake doing investigations for Haskell and Sequoyah counties. Williams began her career with OKDHS in 1997 in Family Support Services, where she worked for a short time in the Aging, Blind and Disabled and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs. She has since served in Child Welfare where she worked in intake, prevention, permanency planning and independent living.

Prior to her employment at OKDHS, she spent four years teaching fourth grade at Marble City Schools in Sequoyah County.

"As a worker, I was able to see a difference in the lives of the children and families I came into contact with from only one worker's perspective,” Williams said. “In this position, I am able to see a broader spectrum of children and families and thus a greater impact on the safety and well-being of the Oklahoma children and families we serve."

Williams graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.

Williams is a long-time resident of Sequoyah County. She has two children – Jeremy, 25, and Amy, 22 – and two grandchildren, and is looking forward to the birth of her third grandchild in April.
