PONCA CITY --- Lindsay Knight of Ponca City received a commendation from Gov. Brad Henry on Nov. 8 at the 20th Annual Governor’s Disability Employment Awards ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City.
Knight was recognized in the employee category for her outstanding achievements in employment. The awards program stated this about Knight:

“Lindsay Knight is a busy lady. She works at two different jobs to fill her week through the Pioneer Technology Center Supported Employment Program. She’s worked for the past two and a half years at Pizza Hut assembling boxes, and for nearly two years as a laundry assistant at Northern Therapy and Rehabilitation. Lindsay is definitely a self-starter. She takes the bus each day to get to both of her jobs and knows what to do when she’s there. Both employers say that Lindsay is very reliable and always cheerful. They depend on her to keep their cabinets stocked with the materials on which their business relies. Lindsay is very active in her community and enjoys competing in Special Olympics each year. She also raises prize-winning rabbits that she shows at the Kay County Fair.”

The Governor’s Disability Employment Awards are held each year to honor outstanding persons with disabilities who have made achievements in employment. The awards also honor businesses that hire persons with disabilities and enable them to succeed.

The awards are co-sponsored by state organizations that support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. They are the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division; the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Oklahoma Association of Persons in Supported Employment and the Office of Handicapped Concerns.
