ENID -- Jan Robinson, principal of McKinley Elementary school in Enid, was presented with commendations from Gov. Brad Henry on Nov. 8 at the 20th Annual Governor’s Disability Employment Awards ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City.
Robinson was recognized in the business category for hiring persons with disabilities and helping them to succeed. The awards program stated this about Robinson:
“Jan Robinson, the principal of McKinley Elementary School in Enid, has been the secret behind the success of one supported employee. She has worked closely with the employment specialists at the CDSA Supported Employment Program to help this employee succeed in his job. Jan was patient and allowed the employee ample time to learn and become comfortable with his job. She even helped develop a detailed checklist that helped him to learn his job easier. When the employee experienced a family emergency, she made sure he had the paid leave he needed to take care of his family’s needs. She recognized his dedication to his job throughout his personal challenges and even recommended him for a promotion and a raise. The support Jan has shown this employee has certainly been a large factor in his ongoing success.”
The Governor’s Disability Employment Awards are held each year to honor outstanding persons with disabilities who are working successfully in their communities. The awards also recognize businesses that hire persons with disabilities and help them to succeed.
The awards are co-sponsored by state organizations that support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. They are the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division; the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Oklahoma Association of Persons in Supported Employment and the Office of Handicapped Concerns.
