CHELSEA -- William Ager of Chelsea received a commendation from Gov. Brad Henry on Nov. 8 at the 20th Annual Governor’s Disability Employment Awards ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City.
Ager was recognized in the employee category for his outstanding achievements in employment. The awards program stated this about Ager:
“William Ager has worked at his local Wal-Mart for the past 8 years performing a variety of jobs. He earned a gold pin for longevity two years ago and continues to be an outstanding employee. He works independently without a job coach, is always on time and hardly ever misses work. In 1988, when supported employment first started in Oklahoma, William was one of the first people in the state to get a job through this program. He worked in a variety of positions for nearly 10 years until settling at Wal-Mart. He now receives only occasional support from Res Care supported employment. William has confidence in himself and has achieved an independence that only comes from having a job.”
The Governor’s Disability Employment Awards are held each year to honor outstanding persons with disabilities who are working successfully in their communities. The awards also recognize businesses that hire persons with disabilities and help them to succeed.
The awards are co-sponsored by state organizations that support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. They are the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division; the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Oklahoma Association of Persons in Supported Employment and the Office of Handicapped Concerns.
