OKEMAH -- Jason Raney of Okemah received a commendation from Gov. Brad Henry Nov. 8 at the 20th Annual Governor’s Disability Employment Awards ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City.
Raney was recognized in the employee category for his outstanding achievements in employment. The awards program stated this about Raney:

“Jason Raney has worked for the past five years at Williams Discount Grocery Store in Okemah. He started out working odd jobs and helping out where ever he was needed. In time, he was transferred to a stocking position. As a grocery stocker, he has learned to match product colors and labels with their codes and generally knows the proper place for everything. His boss says that Jason is a conscientious employee who sticks with the job until it is completed and is always willing to take on additional work. Jason has progressed from needing one-on-one attention from his job coach to just an occasional request for assistance. Jason is very proud of his job and what he has been able to learn and accomplish. His pride shows through in the way he dresses and the smiles he wears every day.”

The Governor’s Disability Employment Awards are held each year to honor outstanding persons with disabilities who are working successfully in their communities. The awards also recognize businesses that hire persons with disabilities and help them to succeed.

The awards are co-sponsored by state organizations that support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. They are the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division; the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Oklahoma Association of Persons in Supported Employment and the Office of Handicapped Concerns.
