BARTLESVILLE -- The Albertson’s Grocery store in Bartlesville was presented with a commendation from Gov. Brad Henry on Nov. 8 at the 20th Annual Governor’s Disability Employment Awards ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City.
Albertson’s was recognized in the business category for hiring persons with disabilities and helping them to succeed. The awards program stated this:
“The Albertson’s Grocery Store in Bartlesville currently employs four persons with disabilities through EmployAbility Inc. The store’s staff works with the employees to set their schedules according to the number of hours and the shifts that are best for them to work. Terry Miller, the store manager, has been a great advocate for hiring people with disabilities, not only within his store, but to other businesses as well. He spoke at the Bartlesville Mayor’s Employment Awards and talked about what great employees these individuals make. Albertson’s does a great job of making sure the employees with disabilities are included in all activities of the store and provides a supportive work environment.”
The Governor’s Disability Employment Awards are held each year to honor outstanding persons with disabilities who are working successfully in their communities. The awards also recognize businesses that hire persons with disabilities and help them to succeed.
The awards are co-sponsored by state organizations that support people with disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. They are the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services Division; the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, the Oklahoma Association of Persons in Supported Employment and the Office of Handicapped Concerns.
