OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- On any given day there are more than 5,900 children in foster care in Oklahoma. And even though the number of children in foster care has decreased nearly five percent from just a year ago, the need for quality foster homes is still there.
To better inform the public about foster care and the need for quality foster homes, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services has redesigned and re-launched its foster care Web site.
“This new site is much cleaner and easier to navigate than the old site,” said Doug Doe, OKDHS public information specialist and designer of the new Web site. “The information has been updated and new information has been added. It’s more informative and has a fresh new look.”
The new foster care Web site features information about foster children, what foster parents can expect from the experience and answers to some common questions. There are also new sections on tribal foster care, the need for volunteers to help foster children and access to continually updated statistics.
If you or someone you know would like to experience the rewards of becoming a foster parent, or if you would like to become a volunteer, please call 1-800-376-9729, or log onto /content/sok-wcm/en/okdhs.html and click on foster care. To report suspected child abuse or neglect, call 1-800-522-3511, or contact your local OKDHS Human Services Center.
