OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services will begin taking applications on March 15 for heating assistance for applicable low-income homes through the federally sponsored “Energy Crisis Assistance Program.”
To be eligible, households must either have had service discontinued or terminated by their heating supplier, have a notice of scheduled cut-off within 72 hours (notice of refusal to provide additional fuel when fuel will likely be depleted within 72 hours) or information regarding a fee for new connection. Funding for ECAP is limited and applications for ECAP will be taken until available funding is expended.
Where applicable, the amount that will be paid is the amount necessary to maintain, restore or attain service up to a maximum of $100 for a one-person household and up to $150 for a household of two or more persons.
Size of Household | Allowable Monthly Net Income |
---|---|
1 | $824 |
2 | $1,111 |
3 | $1,399 |
4 | $1,687 |
5 | $1,975 |
6 | $2,263 |
Applicants should bring their household’s latest 72-hour cut-off notice and income information to their local OKDHS County office to speed up the application process.
Mel Phillips, OKDHS LIHEAP coordinator, said ECAP is specifically designed to assist low-income households who are truly in a crisis situation because of their winter heating costs.
“We especially want to assist senior citizens and others on fixed incomes who need assistance with rising heating costs,” Phillips said.
Interested applicants should contact their local OKDHS office for further information.
