OKLAHOMA CAPITOL -- Laura "Lynn" Childers will assume duties and the county director for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Pittsburg County human services center, effective April 1, according to a state official.
OKDHS Area IV Director Bill Wilson said, “We are very pleased in Area IV that Lynn is taking on this Pittsburg County leadership role. I have work with her for years throughout southeastern Oklahoma and she knows how to get things done.

“She has done a fine job in the counties she worked in before accepting this position and I believe that her strength of character and humans services experience will add value to the work being done in Pittsburg County.”

Childers began her human services career as a Family Support Services social worker in Pushmataha County 23 years ago. She has held social work and supervisor positions in the OKDHS Washington County human services center and served as OKDHS county director in Johnston and Bryan counties, respectively.

“I have loved working in the Department and will miss my friends and co-workers in Bryan County;” Childers said. However, I am truly excited about taking on this leadership role in one of OKDHS’ larger human services centers.

I am very excited about this new opportunity and am looking forward to working with staff and community partners. In these times of fiscal budget restraints, it takes strong relationships with all of our community partners to meet the collective needs of our customers. When we are working together, we provide the quality of services our customers need, want and deserve."

Childers graduated from Antlers High School in Pushmataha County. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant.

Childers’ husband, Gaylin, is a veteran OKDHS Family Support Services Supervisor in Coal County. She has a son, Sean, of Bartlesville, and a daughter, Melissa, who’s graduating in May from the University of Oklahoma, Norman.
