Gov. Henry Proclaims November Adoption Awareness Month
OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- For the first time in state history, Oklahoma’s Swift Adoption Services finalized more than 1,000 adoptions in a federal fiscal year for a total of 1,143. This is an increase from the 995 adoptions finalized in federal fiscal year 2002.
But with this great success there is still a need for adoptive homes, particularly for groups of brothers and sisters hoping to be adopted together. More than 1,000 children awaiting adoption have brothers and sisters and need to be placed in loving, caring adoptive homes where they can grow up together.
To help raise awareness about the growing number of siblings awaiting adoption, the Oklahoma Department of Human Services’ Swift Adoption Program would like to introduce Oklahomans to a group of four siblings who are hoping to be adopted together.
Meet Davon, a tall, handsome 9-year-old. Davon is an easygoing, caring and compassionate child who makes friends easily. He loves sports and is competitive, but generally gets along well with others.
Meet Malik, a sweet, lovable 7-year-old. Malik is very tidy and keeps his clothes and room very clean. He makes good grades and likes to help around the house. Malik enjoys being by himself and is affectionate with people he knows well.
Meet 6-year-old twins, Jeremiah and Jeremy. Jeremiah is an active, energetic boy who’s affectionate with people he knows well and likes to give hugs. He’s generally respectful to authority figures and gets along well with other children.
Jeremy has mild cerebral palsy in his legs, but is only mildly challenged. He’s an active and energetic boy who’s affectionate, makes friends easily and gets along well with other children.
