OKLAHOMA CAPITOL --- Larry Johnson, a 23-year veteran of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, has been named Programs Administrator for the agency’s Field Operations Division.
In his new position, Johnson will oversee the Field Operations division’s personnel actions, track equipment, statistics and key indicators as well as monitor the budget for Field Operations.

"Larry has years of experience working with field staff," said Jean Derry, Director, Field Operations. "He’s familiar with their needs and responsibilities and works hard at giving them the tools they need to deliver quality service to the public."

Johnson began his career with OKDHS as a social worker in Custer County. He later went on to serve as county director for Kingfisher County before moving to the Area I office where he served as a field liaison.

"I try everyday to make sure I do something that has a direct or clear impact on helping someone’s life improve," said Johnson. "Since I entered administration, I try to focus my tasks on making the field staff’s job more effective and efficient, less cumbersome and restrictive so their focus is on social services and not bureaucratic tasks."

Johnson graduated from Marion High School, Marion, Ill., and earned a bachelor’s in Psychology and a master’s in Agency Counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford.

Johnson is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kingfisher and is active in the church’s youth mission activities.

Johnson’s wife of 21 years, Sheryl, teaches sixth grade science at Kingfisher Middle School. They have two daughters, Adriane, 16, and Lauren, 20.
